Toadstool The Basics
Full Name: Julia Lea Van Zanten Sjöberg (Julia L. V. Sjöberg, or usually just Julia Sjöberg)
Born: 12 December, 1975 in Waconia, Minnesota at 3:19pm
Age: 27
Height: 5 feet, 0 inches (that's 153cm for you metric freaks)
Zodiac Sign: Sagittarius
Blood Type: B positive
Parents: Mary and Harold
Siblings: Younger sister, Kristina (21); older half-sister Stacy (deceased)
Husband: Per Jonas Bertil Sjöberg
Ancestry: Primarily Dutch, German, Austrian/Slovak, and Norwegian, a smidgeon of English and some random others. (more info on genealogy here)
Pets: I'm currently petless, but I have plans for slugs, hedgehogs and dogs in the future.
Hometown: Mound, Minnesota, USA
Currently Residing: Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA
Occupation: I work as for the Eden Prairie branch of Hennepin County Libraries. My official title is LTA - Library Technical Assistant.
My External Appearance: I am 5 feet tall, and I have blue eyes, a small nose, pierced ears several times over, longish blond hair and a mouth which contains several teeth. I also have 2 arms, 2 legs, several fingernails of varying length, and some assorted birthmarks and scars. You probably would find me wearing a Sagittarius necklace, an engagement band, a wedding band, a pair of jeans and a casual shirt. You would most likely not find me wearing a dress unless I was attending a wedding or in one. Contrary to popular belief (and, as noted above), I am not 14.
My Internal Appearance: Really messy, I'm afraid. I'm fairly certain there is a variety of bones of many sizes and shapes, quite an amount of blood, some muscles here and there, several vital organs (and others only identifiable by a medical professional), and likely some partially digested food, as well as an assortment of miscellaneous fluids swimming around in there. (NOTE: I am merely making an educated guess of this description; I have neither examined my body internally, nor do I recommend it to others.) Sorry, I don't have any internal pictures of myself to share at this time, but you can be sure I will put up any I acquire in the future.

Toadstool Insight
Things I am(?) ashamed to admit:
  • I've failed calculus.
  • I still use Bonne Bell Lip Smackers.
  • I actually own three Beanie Babies. I couldn't help it, honest. Mom gave me a hedgehog and a rhino and my grandma gave me another hedgehog!
The most beautiful places I've ever visited:
  • the Oregon coast in July
  • Innsbruck, Austria in January runs a close second - the Alps were gorgeous! (Unfortunately, we got into a car accident there, so that spoiled the memory somewhat.)
My biggest fear:
  • wood ticks
Famous persons I've drooled over:
  • Brian Harper
  • Javy Lopez
  • Bobby Hurley
I wish I were better at:
  • keeping up correspondence with my friends and family
  • being able to talk about things when I'm upset
  • coming up with ideas for gifts for others
My dream job would be:
  • a paleontologist (concentrating on prehistoric mammals)
  • working in a used-book store or, better yet, owning one
If I won a million dollars, I would:
Whimsical:
  • spend it on books and open a used-book store, or
  • buy an RV and travel around until the money ran out
Practical:
  • buy a house
  • I would still buy an RV!
  • save, save, save
Things I collect:
  • Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne, in various languages
  • snazzy fonts
  • foreign coins
  • stamps, passively
  • baseball cards (not so actively anymore, but I still have them all)
Languages I've studied:
  • Spanish (high school)
  • Italian (university)
  • Swedish (university)
Some of the most exciting moments in my life so far:
  • gazing into the night sky near the Grand Canyon and seeing, for the first time in my life, the white band across the sky that's the center of our galaxy
  • [cheese alert] when Jonas proposed on the marble stair of the Lincoln Memorial in D.C.
  • watching Scott Erickson's no-hitter live at the Metrodome, 27 April, 1994 (I also got to see Dave Winfield's 3,000th hit! - 16 September, 1993)
Special skills or talents I have:
  • I can write forward with my right hand and backward with my left, at the same time.
The scariest things I've ever done:
  • my first time on the "Fritt Fall" (Free Fall) ride at Stockholm's Gröna Lund amusement park, during which you free-fall 80m at 100km/h in your seat - I felt confident until we had risen to the height from which we were to drop, then I thought I was going to die!
I have recurring dreams about:
  • my teeth falling out
  • tornadoes
  • old classmates
When I was younger, I wanted to become:
  • a paleontologist
  • an astronomer
  • an anthropologist/archeologist
My most prized possessions:
  • photo albums/scrapbooks
  • my library
Some ambitions I have:
  • to go orienteering (actually, I did a simple type of orienteering when I was younger, but I'd love to do it again)
  • to learn to use a weaving loom
  • to research my family history and ancestry
  • to someday have visited every continent, including Antarctica
Things that irritate me:
  • self-deprecation
  • people whose spelling has deteriorated so severely that they can't seem to spell even the simplest of words (e.g. "how r u?", "ne1", "l8er") -- this is very, very sad.
My weirdest experiences:
  • Back in early 1995 I was on a talker called Tombstone. One day I encountered a girl there, and we were making small talk in the main room:
Girl X: Where in Minnesota are you from?
    Me: Western suburbs of Minneapolis.
Girl X: Really? Me too. Which high school?
    Me: Mound-Westonka
    Girl X: What YEAR??
    Me: 1994
Girl X: This is incredible. Who are you?
    Me: Julia Van Zanten.
Girl X: WHOA!! I'm Missy [last name censored]!!!

It was a girl I knew - or rather, that I used to know, as she'd moved away back in 6th grade. That was completely boggling!

Toadstool Odds & Ends
A few quotes I'm fond of:
It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. -- A Bartlett Giamatti
Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind.
"Pooh!" he whispered.
"Yes, Piglet?"
"Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw. "I just wanted to be sure of you."
-- A. A. Milne
Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders, and love chatter in places of exercise. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers. -- Socrates, 5th century B.C.
If God is omnipotent, he could have prevented the Holocaust. If he was unable to stop it, he is impotent and useless; if he could have stopped it and chose not to, he is a monster. -- Karen Armstrong, "A History of God"
